Back up gut is the gut that burns, either on the way up, the way down, in your throat or the middle of your chest. This burn is caused by stomach acid making its way back up the esophagus and getting into places it shouldn’t. Stomach acid is essential for breaking down your food, but when it heads north from the stomach it can hurt like hell.
The body knows that food is supposed to go down, so why is it that sometimes it flows in the wrong direction?
Eating too much, or foods that irritate the value that keeps acid out of the esophagus, can cause irritation. Sometimes stomach acid can be too low, and therefore food sits in the stomach too long, allowing your pipes to back up.
Remember that neutralizing acid, can help relieve symptoms and prevent damage, but insufficient acid may cause nutrient deficiencies from poor food breakdown. For proper digestion, you need the right amount of acid in the right places.
